One is to prepare students for the AP Exam in European History; the other more important goal is to make students truly think about and analyze the impact of events, people, and actions taken in the past. Various points of view, biases, and interconnections with other events, people, and underlying issues are all involved in getting a historical perspective. By the end of the year, students should be able to defend their positions both orally and in writing and they should have learned to listen and tolerate people with different viewpoints.
